Bra Size Guide UAE: How to Measure Your Band and Cup at Home in 5 Minutes
Most women in the UAE are not wearing the size they think they are. The usual culprit is not the cup. It is the band. A band that is too loose pushes the weight onto the straps, rides up your back and makes the cups look too small, so you go up a cup and the problem gets worse. This guide shows you how to measure at home in five minutes, how to read the result, and how to check that a bra actually fits. If you shop online, it also tells you what to do when your exact size is missing.
Once you have your number, you can browse the full bras collection and filter by your size. If you are comparing sizes between shops, our EU vs UK vs US bra size conversion chart explains why the same size can look different on every label.
What you need
- A soft tape measure (cm on one side, inches on the other)
- A non-padded or lightly lined bra, so the padding does not inflate the reading
- A mirror
- Two minutes of privacy
Step 1: Measure your underbust (this is your band)
Stand straight and breathe out normally. Wrap the tape around your rib cage, directly under the bust, where the band of a bra would sit. Keep the tape level all the way round (check in the mirror that it does not dip at the back) and snug, but not digging in.
- EU / metric: round to the nearest 5 cm. An underbust of 74–77 cm is a 75 band.
- UK / US: round to the nearest even number of inches. About 74 cm (29 in) rounds to a 34 in most modern charts.
Use the underbust in both cm and inches when you compare shops. UAE retailers use both, and the numbers look very different.
Step 2: Measure your overbust (this gives your cup)
Now wrap the tape around the fullest part of your bust, keeping it level and relaxed. Do not pull it tight. Write the number down.
The cup maths
Subtract your underbust from your overbust. The difference is your cup.
| Difference (cm) | Difference (inches) | UK cup | EU cup |
|---|---|---|---|
| about 12 | 1 | A | A |
| about 14 | 2 | B | B |
| about 16 | 3 | C | C |
| about 18 | 4 | D | D |
| about 20 | 5 | DD | E |
| about 22 | 6 | E | F |
Example: underbust 75 cm, overbust 91 cm. The difference is 16 cm, so you are a 75C in EU sizing, which is a 34C in UK sizing. Charts differ slightly between brands, so treat this as your starting point, not a final verdict.
Sister sizes: when to size sideways
A sister size has the same cup volume on a different band. The rule is simple: go up a band, down a cup (or the reverse).
- 34C = 32D = 36B
- 75C = 70D = 80B
Use sister sizes when your exact size is out of stock, when a style runs small in the band, or when a band feels loose but the cup fits. Our plus size bra guide explains how this works across fuller-bust and larger-band sizes.
The 7 fit checks
Put the bra on, fasten it on the loosest hook, and check:
- Band: it should be snug and level. You should fit two fingers under it, not more. A band that rides up needs a smaller band.
- Wire sit: underwires should lie flat against your ribcage, not on breast tissue.
- Spillage: no bulging at the top or sides of the cup. If there is, go up a cup.
- Straps: they carry only a small part of the support. If they dig in, the band is too loose.
- Gore (centre panel): it should sit flat against your sternum.
- Back fat: bulging over the band usually means the band is too tight or too narrow, not that you need a smaller size.
- Ride-up: if the back is higher than the front, tighten the band size.

| 2XL | 90–95 | 40–42 |

This is a rough guide for non-wired and stretch styles. For wired bras, always use your measured band and cup. For the full three-system conversion, use the conversion chart.
Which style for which size?
Once you know your size, choose by use: everyday bras for all-day wear, plus size bras for fuller cups and wider bands, and for dresses and abayas see our guide to strapless and multiway bras. Panty sizes follow their own logic, so see our panty size guide to match your bottoms.
When to re-measure
- After any weight change of around 3–4 kg
- During and after pregnancy (your ribcage expands; see the nursing and maternity bra guide)
- At least once every 12 months, since elastic wears out and bodies change
- After starting a new training routine
Heat matters too. In UAE summers you may feel tighter in the band by evening, so measure in the morning and in a cool room.
FAQ
How do I know my correct bra size? Measure your underbust for the band and your overbust for the cup, then calculate the difference. Confirm with the 7 fit checks above.
What is 75C in UK size? EU 75C is usually 34C in UK sizing. Brands vary slightly, so check each size guide.
Why is my bra band riding up? The band is too loose or the cup is too big for the band. Try a smaller band, and a cup that is one letter larger (sister size).
How tight should a bra band be? Snug enough that it stays level without lifting, but you should still be able to breathe and fit two fingers underneath.
What is a sister size in bras? A different band and cup combination with the same cup volume. Go up a band and down a cup (or the reverse).
